Car Rental terms and conditions
Reservations:
All reservations are made based on the vehicle category, not for a specific model.
In case of non-availability of a vehicle in the category pre-selected by the customer, always with reference to a confirmed reservation, 5 STAR RENT A CAR reserves the right to provide to the customer a higher category car, at no extra charge for the customer.
Driver:
23 years old is the minimum age requirement for using cars of categories A,B,C and D; 25 years of age is the minimum age requirement for the rest of car categories. Maximum age is 75.
Driving license:
Production of a valid license for driving in the Greek territory and the E.U., issued at least 1 year prior to the rental’s starting date, is required. Citizens of countries outside the E.U. are required to be in possession of a driver’s license valid both in Greece and in the European Union, or otherwise holders of an international driver’s license which they are required to present together with the valid driver’s license issued in their country.
Traffic tickets – Fines:
Traffic tickets and fines due to violations of the Highway Code are borne by the Renter. In addition, the Renter undertakes the payment of management costs, where required.
Means of Payment:
The Renter is required to produce a credit card as guarantee for the rental, even if payment is made in cash. Rental is prepaid.
Reservation Cancellations
Cancellation of a reservation must be done at least forty eight (48) hours prior to the scheduled date and hour of commencement of the vehicle’s rental (always according to the exact hour of reservation), as this has been made in the company’s reservations system. Should you wish to cancel a reservation, you should contact the company through the reservations system of which you made the reservation.
The following charges shall apply for the cancellation of reservations:
In case of a cancellation notice received by 5 STAR RENT A CAR at least forty eight (48) hours prior to the scheduled commencement of the vehicle’s rental, any amount prepaid shall be refunded. In case the payment has been made by card (credit or debit) the refund of the respective amount may take up to 14 days depending on the partner bank of the card you used while making your booking.
In case of a cancellation notice received by 5 STAR RENT A CAR less than forty eight (48) hours prior to the scheduled commencement of the vehicle’s rental, there shall be no refund of any amount that may have been prepaid.
The (48) hours cancellation policy applies for short term rental up to 10 days. For reservation more than 10 days a notice for cancellation must be given one month in advance, otherwise no refund will be issued for any amount paid.
After hours deliveries – collections:
Customer extra charge: 25€.
Out of station deliveries – collections:
Deliveries and collections out of stations take place upon request by the customer. The extra charge for deliveries-collections within cities is 15€+VAT, while for out-of-town deliveries-collections, the cost is 25€+VAT, plus 1.45€+VAT per km.
Additional driver:
The charge for each additional driver is 4€/day. The maximum number of drivers is set at 3 persons.
Child seat:
The charge for child seat is set at 5€/day upon request by the customer and based on the company’s availability; the maximum charge is set at 50€/rental.
Snow chains:
The charge for snow chains is set at 10€/day upon request by the customer and based on the company’s availability; the maximum charge is set at 50€/rental.
Fuel:
The renter has to return the car with the same quantity of fuel it had when collected. In case the car is returned with a quantity of fuel less than the original (namely, less than the quantity of fuel the vehicle had when collected by the customer), the customer shall be charged with the fuel difference. No customer refund is provided in case of the car returned with a quantity of fuel greater than that collected. Vehicles are delivered with a maximum quantity of fuel, corresponding to 4/4 of the reservoir.
Mileage:
Free mileage is provided for rentals of more than 7 days’ duration. For rentals of a duration less than 7 days, prices include a 100 km/day limitation. In the latter case, should the renter wish for free mileage, it can opt for the free mileage package, at a charge according to the pricelist applicable from time to time. Otherwise, for each additional kilometer over and above 100km/day, the customer will be charged, upon return of the vehicle, with an amount of 0.10€+VAT per kilometer for passenger cars, or with 0.15€+VAT per km for minivans.
Accident:
In case of an accident, the customer is charged with 37€ for the accident file administration costs.
INSURANCES:
CDW – Collision Damage Waiver:
The renter is fully released of the liability for any car damage:
- over 600€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the A,B,C,GM,GM3 categories
- over 800€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the C1C,C2C,C2CM,D,DD,DDD,DX,G2,G2X,K categories
- over 950€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the F7,FAD,FFD,FR1,G4,GD,GQ,H1,J1,J2,K2,K2F,K2MAN categories
- over 1250€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the F1,F2D,F3D,FDFF1,FFL,FFO,FR2,J4,J4H,J5,J7 categories
- over 1500€ +VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the E-JL,L1 categories
- over 2000€ +VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract for the JL,J3,L3 categories
As a necessary condition for release from liability, the damage must be proven not to have been caused by a Highway Code violation.
SCDW – Super Collision Damage Waiver:
The renter is fully released of the liability for any car damage:
- over 350€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 6€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories A,B,C,GM,GM3
- over 400€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 7€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories C1C,C2C,C2CM,D,DD,DDD,DX,G2,G2X,K
- over 475€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 8€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories F7,FAD,FFD,FR1,G4,GD,GQ,H1,J1,J2,K2,K2F,K2MAN
- over 625€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 9€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories F1,F2D,F3D,FDFF1,FFL,FFO,FR2,J4,J4H,J5,J7
- over 750€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 15€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories E-JL,L1
- over 1000€+VAT provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of 25€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories JL,J3,L3
As a necessary condition for release from liability, the damage must be proven not to have been caused by a Highway Code violation.
FDW – Full Damage Waiver:
The renter is fully released of the liability for any car damage provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of:
- 30€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories A,B,C,GM,GM3
- 35€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories C1C,C2C,C2CM,D,DD,DDD,DX,G2,G2X,K
- 35€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories F7,FAD,FFD,FR1,G4,GD,GQ,H1,J1,J2,K2,K2F,K2MAN
- 35€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories F1,F2D,F3D,FDFF1,FFL,FFO,FR2,J3,J4,J4H,J5,J7
- 35€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories E-JL,L1
- 50€ on top of the CDW for each rental day in respect of the categories JL,J3,L3
As a necessary condition for release from liability, the damage must be proven not to have been caused by a Highway Code violation.
Damage to Convertible Soft Top is not covered and will be paid in full by the customer.
PAI – Personal Accident Insurance:
The renter is not covered by a “Driver’s Insurance” (PAI), unless he/she accepts and signs the relevant term of the company’s contract and pays the amount of: 10€/ rental day for all categories of vehicles.
Maximum amount of insurance compensation payable: 15,000 Euros.
Insurance Limits:
Vehicles are insured against third parties (excluding the driver) for death and bodily harm up to the amount of one million two hundred and twenty thousand Euros (1,220,000.00€) per accident and for material damages by third parties (excluding the 5 STAR RENT A CAR vehicle) up to the amount of one million two hundred and twenty thousand Euros (1,220,000.00€). In case of change of the above limits, the minimum limits, as defined by the applicable Greek legislation, shall always apply. Damages exceeding the insurance coverage limit, or excluded by it, shall be fully paid by the customer.
LW: Tire and glass break coverage:
The renter is fully released of the liability for any damage to the car’s tires or glass only provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of:
10€/ rental day for the categories A,B,C,GM,GM3
12€/ rental day for the categories C1C,C2C,C2CM,D,DD,DDD,DX,G2,G2X,K
14€/ rental day for the categories F7,FAD,FFD,FR1,G4,GD,GQ,H1,J1,J2,K2,K2F,K2MAN
15€/ rental day for the categories F1,F2D,F3D,FDFF1,FFL,FFO,FR2,J4,J4H,J5,J7
25€/ rental day for the categories E-JL,L1
45€/ rental day for the categories JL,J3,L3
Theft :
The renter is fully released of the liability for any damage to the car in the event of theft, provided he/she accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract and pays the amount of:
10€/ rental day for the categories A,B,C,GM,GM3
12€/ rental day for the categories C1C,C2C,C2CM,D,DD,DDD,DX,G2,G2X,K
14€/ rental day for the categories F7,FAD,FFD,FR1,G4,GD,GQ,H1,J1,J2,K2,K2F,K2MAN
15€/ rental day for the categories F1,F2D,F3D,FDFF1,FFL,FFO,FR2,J4,J4H,J5,J7

Main condition for the above coverage is the absence of negligence, even slight, or of unlawful conduct during the vehicle’s rental.
Road Assistance:
5 STAR RENT A CAR cars are covered by 24hours road assistance. Road assistance’s contact details are stated on the rental contract.
Where replacement of the vehicle deemed as necessary, up to 24 hours are required for areas in the Mainland, while for any other area within the Greek territory, a period of up to 72 hours is required.
If it is proven in the end that the replacement of the vehicle is not deemed necessary, then the lessee will be charged with transportation cost.
Car transport out of the country:
Transport and driving of the car outside the borders of the Greek Territory is prohibited. Driving of the car out of the country is allowed exceptionally and only upon written permission by the company and payment of the amount which the company shall determine in each case.
Car transport by ship:
For the car’s transport by ship, the company’s written approval is required.

Although this website is accessible worldwide, not all products or services discussed or referenced in this website are available to all persons or in all geographic locations or jurisdictions. If a legal dispute action arises from your access to or use of the 5 STAR RENT A CAR website, you hereby agree that it shall be submitted for resolution to Sparta District Court. This Agreement has been written in Greek and translated into English. If any dispute arises in the interpretation between the Greek and English text, the Greek text will prevail over the English text.
Other General Provisions. 5 STAR RENT A CAR reserves the right to immediately terminate your access to and use of this website or any portion thereof, or to eliminate any content, feature or service of this website, at any time and for any reason, with or without cause. Headings found in this Agreement are for reference only. A party’s failure to insist upon or enforce strict performance of any provision of this Agreement shall not be construed as a waiver of any provision or right. This, together with any 5 STAR RENT A CAR policies referred to herein, is the entire Agreement between 5 STAR RENT A CAR and you relating to the subject matter herein and supersedes any and all prior or contemporaneous written or oral Agreements between 5 STAR RENT A CAR and you regarding the same subject matter (except other written, fully-executed contracts between you and 5 STAR RENT A CAR. Neither the course of conduct between you and 5 STAR RENT A CAR, nor trade practice shall act to modify any provision of this Agreement. If any provision of this Agreement is held to be invalid or unenforceable, such determination shall not affect such provision in any other respect or any other provision of this Agreement, which shall remain in full force and effect. This Agreement is not assignable, transferable to third parties or sublicensable by you except with 5 STAR RENT A CAR prior written consent solely for this purpose.
